Whilst I have my big Canon 200-400mm with me, I’ve mainly been shooting with the Canon 7D Mark II and the amazing Canon 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 L IS II. This combination get’s me to a 640mm equivalent field of view in a hand-holdable package. In the right light, the image quality is every bit as good as the $12,000+ 200-400mm lens (my Canon 200 Canon calls this the CANON ZOOM LENS EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 L IS USM. EF means "electronic focus," meaning that there is an autofocus motor in the lens itself. All Canon lenses since 1987 have been EF. L means as expensive as L. IS means Image Stabilization. USM means Ultra-Sonic Motor, meaning AF is almost silent. Optics top. 19 elements in 14 The current-at-review-time Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM non-IS Macro Lens was already a great lens with fast AF and excellent image quality. The Canon EF 180mm f/3.5L USM Macro Lens, while it has great build and image quality, could really use a new AF system - and IS would be especially helpful at this longer focal length. The Nikon doesn't catch up until f/4. Interestingly the Nikon has more magnification at distance, it seems the Canon is less than 35mm true FL, more like 30mm or the Nikon is more like 38-40mm.
IP 93.210.x.x. Owner since: 3 months. Price: 32€. User profile: Amateur. Cons: No manual focus, lots of CA when wide open, little flare. Pros: Very sharp when step down to f5.6, the sharpest at 100mm focal length, nice contrast and natural colors. Focus is on the spot (with the lens I own), nice bokeh.
It uses only lead-free glass, and has a lightweight magnesium alloy lens barrels with enhanced resistance to moisture and dust. The Canon EF200mm f/2L IS USM is an exceptionally sharp lens that is significantly lighter (2520g/5.5 lbs. vs. 3000g/6.6 lbs.) than its predecessor, the renowned EF200mm f/1.8L USM lens, while adding OIS and a weather YuIH.
